Citizen is only as good as its sources. Here's where the information comes from.

Legislative data

LegiScan API — the single source of truth for all federal and state bill, vote, sponsor, and representative data. Where an official photo isn't available, Citizen shows a deterministic initials avatar instead.

Address resolution

Geocodio — converts your address to a congressional and state legislative district. Your exact street address is never stored (TDPSA); only your city, state, and district codes are retained.

Election data

Google Civic Information API — contest, candidate, and polling location data.

AI classification

xAI Grok (primary classifier) + Claude by Anthropic (auditor). See the AI Methodology for how the two-model pipeline works.

State and Local Finances

What state and local governments owe and pay in interest, from the U.S. Census Bureau's surveys of government finances.

Authentication

Twilio Verify — SMS one-time-passcode only. No passwords stored.
